On Thursday, October 17, Milford High School’s Drumline will light up the streets of Cincinnati as they perform in the highly anticipated 8 p.m. BLINK Festival Parade. This marks the second time the group has participated in the festival, and they’re bringing something truly special to this year’s event.
According to Assistant Director of Bands Brandon Dittgen, the drumline has crafted a unique performance that blends music, visuals, and interaction, creating an experience that engages all the senses. The theme for this year’s performance is a “Salute to Jimmy Buffett,” paying homage to the iconic musician with a modern, energetic twist.
“We’ll have our drumline performing to a techno-remix of Buffett’s greatest hits, creating a blend of classic island vibes with a modern twist,” Dittgen explained. “Beyond the music, we’re focusing on engaging all the senses. We’ll have an exploding volcano that produces tropical-scented fog, lights and illumination throughout the performance, and we’ll even toss beach balls into the crowd for interaction.
With 24 students from the marching band percussion section participating, this performance promises to stand out as one of the most creative in the parade. Dittgen noted that the drumline has worked tirelessly to ensure the performance shines, incorporating more visual elements than in their 2022 appearance.
“Our first time performing at BLINK! in 2022 was a learning experience,” Dittgen said. “This year, we’re adding illuminated props and costumes to create a more dynamic and immersive show. The students are even more excited this time because they know what to expect, and they’re ready to take things to the next level.”
With BLINK drawing over 2 million people to the Cincinnati region, the Milford Drumline’s performance is set to be a highlight of the festival. Be sure to catch the action on Thursday night as they bring a blend of music, lights and island fun to the streets in an unforgettable performance.
