Milford Exempted Village School Distrist is proud to celebrate the success of 23 Milford High School students who earned AP Capstone honors during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, nine current seniors – Bryson Heller, Ainsley Hull, William Laslo-Haer, Clarissa McFarland, Libby Morgan, Hadley Robinson, Allison Rupert, Sam Dennis and Riya Terala – have been recognized for their academic excellence. The remaining 15 honorees, who have already graduated, join their peers in this significant achievement, marking Milford’s continued commitment to high-level academic success.

The AP Capstone Diploma program is a project-based learning experience offered at over 2,500 schools worldwide. It’s designed to prepare students for college and beyond by developing essential skills through two core courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. To earn the diploma, students must score 3 or higher in these courses, as well as on four additional AP® exams of their choice. For those who complete only AP Seminar and AP Research with qualifying scores, the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ is awarded.

Unlike traditional AP classes, where students are assessed primarily through end-of-year exams, the AP Capstone program takes a more hands-on approach. Throughout the year, students work on group projects, presentations and individual essays, honing skills like time management, collaboration and research that go beyond the classroom. This interdisciplinary program allows students to dive deep into topics that personally interest them, encouraging both academic and personal growth.

“Our AP Capstone students have truly pushed themselves to explore their passions and engage in scholarly research,” said the Superintendent John Spieser. “This program not only prepares students for college but also gives them valuable skills they will carry with them for years to come.”

The AP Capstone Diploma program has seen growing participation in recent years. Globally, over 100,000 students took part during the 2023-24 academic year, with more than 21,000 earning the full diploma. Another 11,100 earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. At Milford, the program continues to gain traction as more students take advantage of this unique opportunity to challenge themselves academically.

Milford’s AP Capstone recipients are part of a global community of learners building skills in project management, presentation, and collaboration – all highly valued by colleges and employers. As these students move forward, they’ll carry the tools they’ve gained from this rigorous, rewarding experience.
