In a powerful act of giving back, Dave and Kathy Meranda have turned their long-standing support for Milford Schools into a lasting legacy, one that will echo through the cheers and victories of future athletes at the soon-to-be named Meranda Sports Complex.
Milford Schools is set to celebrate the grand opening of the new facility on Friday, August 16, with a dedication ceremony that marks a significant milestone for the district. The event, starting at 6 p.m., will be preceded by an open house-style tour of the state-of-the-art complex at 5:30 p.m., inviting the community to explore the latest additions to their school district.
Construction for the Meranda Sports Complex began in May of 2023 as a proactive measure to replace the old amenities displaced by the construction of the new middle school. The more than year-long project was brought to life through the architectural oversight of SHPLeading Design and the dedicated construction work of Conger Construction Group. The new facility includes locker rooms, a wrestling room, a coach's office, a training room, and a concession area, all designed to meet the current and future needs of Milford's student-athletes. Additionally, the complex features large public restrooms and a versatile three-court gym with a multipurpose floor, capable of accommodating a wide range of sporting events and community activities.
The more than year long project was made possible by the architectural oversight of SHP and the construction work from Conger Construction Group.
The complex's namesakes, Dave and Kathy Meranda, have been long-time pillars of the Milford Schools community. Their extraordinary $200,000 sustaining donation, spread over 10 years, is the largest personal contribution in the district's history. This generous gift has helped bring the new athletic facilities to fruition and ensures that future generations of Milford students will have access to top-notch resources.
The dedication of the Meranda Sports Complex not only commemorates the Merandas' generosity but also symbolizes the community's shared commitment to fostering the growth and success of its students through extracurricular activities.
The district invites all community members to join in the celebration and be part of this exciting chapter in Milford Schools' history.
