In Milford Schools, some connections go beyond the classroom. Meet our amazing staff couples who balance love and learning every day!

Tim & Missy Breuer

  • Schools:

    • Milford Junior High & Seipelt Elementary

  • Roles:

    • 8th Grade American History Teacher & 5th Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher

  • Together for:

    • 36 years

  • How did you two meet?:

    • Tim was Missy's blind date to her junior prom.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • Tim had talked to Missy's family to get permission to ask her to marry him. He shared his plans with both families that he was going to take her to dinner at the restaurant where they ate for prom the following evening. Tim had arranged with the wait staff to bring the ring out during dessert where he'd propose to her.

A couple hours before they were to leave for dinner, Missy stopped by to let him know that her college roommate (that he couldn't stand) had shown up on her doorstep sobbing after another failed relationship. Tim tried to convince her to still go to dinner but Missy felt guilty that her friend was at her mom's house hysterically crying.

Tim was worried that someone would accidentally ruin the surprise so he handed her the ring and said, "Well, you might as well have this."

  • Did you always know you were going to be working alongside your spouse?

    • Yes

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Tim started at Milford first and after sharing what a great district it was, Missy applied and was accepted.

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • We at one point taught in the same building and did carpool. We do share lots of ideas and discuss issues and ways to resolve them in the classroom.

  • Have there been any funny or unexpected moments where your work and personal lives collided?

    • Many years ago we taught self contained elementary classes in different schools within the same district. Missy's school had just gotten a computer lab but Tim's school did not have one. On April Fool's Day we told the kids that because Tim was better with computers they were switching our positions. We had gotten approval from our principals and central office to do the switch. The kids were furious that no one had told them about this and offended that we hadn't let them know ourselves. We explained that we were just told about it when we got to school that morning. After an hour we let the kids in on the joke and went back to our respective classrooms.

  • Was there a special moment when you knew you were meant for each other?

    • It was about two months after we met that we knew we were meant for each other.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • Our engagement was unconventional as John proposed without a ring. He was very meticulous and wanted to find the perfect engagement ring. My parents thought it was not going to last since there was no ring. Once he found the perfect ring though, John and I went to a park after picking up some ice cream. He handed me a separate cup and told me he had sprinkles. Inside that cup was the ring.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Cindy had taught in the Little Miami Schools for 10 years and then left that job to raise our 3 boys. After 10 years, she got a job at Miami Elementary in the multiple disability classroom as a 1:1 aide for a student. When the new schools were built, Cindy spent 3 years teaching 6th grade band part time, then circumstances led for a full time position at Meadowview. She has been at Meadowview for 21 years

Kevin & Sarah Metzger

  • Schools:

    • Milford High School

  • Roles:

    • Assistant Principal & Mathematics Teacher

  • Together for:

    • Since 2013, married since 2015

  • How did you two meet?

    • Mr. Metzger was a teacher of mathematics at Milford High School prior to being an assistant principal. The summer prior to the start of the 2013-2014 MHS needed to hire a new math teacher. Mrs. Metzger was hired to fill that position. A few days before the start of the school year Mr. Metzger was walking towards his classroom after coaching a water polo practice and was introduced to Mrs. Metzger as she was getting her new classroom ready for the school year. She needed information about resources for teaching her classes, and Mr. Metzger spent a little time helping her get set up with her classes. The rest is history!

  • Was there a special moment when you knew you were meant for each other?

    • Mr. Metzger was coaching both men's and women's water polo in 2013. We had a tournament at Sycamore High School. We had a game scheduled for a Friday evening and Mrs. Metzger came out to support the team. This was a total surprise and I know the athletes (and Mr. Metzger) appreciated the support. Ever since that date Mrs. Metzger helped with the water polo and swim teams along with the drama program. We were able to support the school and students together.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • Yes! We got engaged in January of 2015. Mr. Metzger was in the middle of coaching swim season. Mrs. Metzger would always help the team when we hosted swim meets. We were preparing for a huge swim meet. We had just finished with swim practice on a random Wednesday night and Mr. Metzger asked Mrs. Metzger if she wanted to go to their favorite restaurant, which was The Quarter in Mariemont. We were living in Mariemont at the time so we had to walk to the restaurant as it was very close to where we were living. As we walked by the old elementary school, Mr. Metzger got down on one knee and proposed! She was caught completely off guard because we were in the middle of the busiest part of our swim season.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Mr. Metzger is a Milford High School graduate of the class of 2007. He graduated college in December of 2011 with a teaching degree in mathematics. There was an opening for a long term substitute position at MHS in December of 2011 as well, so Mr. Metzger jumped on the opportunity to teach at his alma mater.

Mrs. Metzger was teaching at Fairfield and heard of a job opening at Milford through a family friend. She is from the Anderson area and wanted to find a position closer to home and has family that lives in Milford. She had heard of how great the Milford School District is and wanted to see if she could get a teaching position through the district.

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • Amazing! We have had the opportunity to support students together. This has given us the opportunity to learn and grow professionally. More importantly, it has taught us to work together as a team, been super crucial with raising our two boys.

Sarah & Patrick Nunner

  • Schools:

    • McCormick Elementary & Board of Education

  • Roles:

    • Kindergarten Teacher & Courier

  • Together for:

    • 11 years

  • How did you two meet?

    • Patrick and I worked together at Kohl's. He hired me while I was finishing up my degree in Early Childhood Education. I was working my way up the ladder at Kohl's and Patrick helped me remember my passion in education. He helped me see that I would be better suited for teaching than management in retail.

  • Was there a special moment when you knew you were meant for each other?

    • No one makes me laugh like Patrick and he feels the same way. Even in our darkest days we find humor with each other and that is the secret to our happy relationship.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • Patrick had my kindergarten class help him propose. I was sent up to the office to collect something while my best friend Shawna covered my class (she was in on it). I came back to the room and she told me that it was a surprise for teacher appreciation week. I walked in and my Kinders were holding up posters that said "Say Yes". He walked out from behind my file cabinet and proposed in front of my class. He understood how important my students are to me and made sure to make them a part of such an important moment in our lives.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • I chose Milford Schools because they have a reputation as a great place to work. I always wanted to work for Milford, but it was not easy to get a job in a district like ours because everyone wants to work here.

Patrick had recently retired from retail management and decided that he wanted to do something in his spare time. He wanted to work the same schedule as I did, but never thought he would be so fortunate. He saw that they were hiring for a courier and applied immediately.

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • We love working together and having the same work schedule. Patrick is such a huge help with setting up my classroom over the summer. He also goes out of his way to help me whenever he can. He just helped me put my valentines together for my Kinders.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • After a picnic in Eden Park, we got engaged at the top of the steps outside of the Holy Cross Immaculata church in Mt. Adams. When she said yes, our family members popped out to celebrate and we went to Crowley's Highland House down the street afterwards.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • I chose Milford Schools because I enjoyed my time working as a substitute teacher, just one year after graduating from college. The next year I was offered a job to fill an open art teaching position. Alli transferred from West Clermont, where she was working as an art teacher at three different schools. She is much happier working at one school nowadays.

  • Have there been any funny or unexpected moments where your work and personal lives collided?

    • We can't go out in Milford without seeing a student or two! I am just starting to have students at the high school that Alli has as elementary school students. It is fun to share and compare stories about students and families here in Milford!

This overlooked the inter-coastal waterway and the fort. After eating in the back of the Jeep, with the sun going down, I asked Colleen to marry me. I had a $50 ring from a pawn shop and not much else to offer. She said yes. Soon after that a porpoise surfaced.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • The town had a river, a bike shop, an outdoor shop and was close to a larger city. Then I met the people and have loved working here and feel fortunate to have been here for 23 years…..so far.

Shane & Kristal Bartholomew

  • Schools:

    • Milford High & McCormick

  • Roles:

    • Math Teacher and Head Track & Field Coach & Educational Aide

  • Together for:

    • 26 years

  • How did you two meet?

    • We met at The College of Wooster through a mutual friend.

  • Was there a special moment when you knew you were meant for each other?

    • We just knew.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • We were engaged on the shore of Lake Erie.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Milford Schools chose me (Shane) and it has been a great 24 years so far. I always knew I (Shane) would be in a School District, teaching and coaching is what I have always wanted to do. Kristal chose Milford because we live here and both our children have grown up in this district and she wanted to be apart of it as well!

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • Unfortunately other than a similar calendar, neither of us really interact with each other as a part of our jobs. With me teaching math to HS students and Kristal working with elementary aged special needs students it is hard to collaborate on things. That being said we do use each other to decompress as we each know the difficulties the other may be going through day in and day out. We also use each other to share the successes we have on our great days for the same reason!

Tom & Allison Willson

  • Schools:

    • McCormick Elementary & Milford High School

  • Roles:

    • Principal and English Teacher

  • Together for:

    • 23 years together. Almost 22 married.

  • How did you two meet?

    • We both started at Milford in 2001 and met at school.

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • Tom proposed on the 9th tee box of Hickory Woods Golf Course.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Tom is a 1996 graduate. His father, Earl, was an administrator and math teacher. His mother, Cyndie, taught 4th grade at Boyd E Smith. Teaching at Milford for Tom was not a surprise. Allison is from St. Louis and graduated from the University of Kentucky.

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • Because we are at different schools, it's really no different now than if we had two different careers. From 2001-2017, we did work at the same school, but we taught different subjects. That was fun. We tried not to "talk shop" outside of school and focused on our common interests instead.

Chris & Regina Vollman

  • Schools:

    • Milford Junior High & Mulberry and Boyd E Smith Elementary

  • Roles:

    • 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher and Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant & Media Aide

  • Together for:

    • 30 years

  • How did you two meet?

    • We went to Fairfield High School together, then on to Miami University.

  • Was there a special moment when you knew you were meant for each other?

    • Chris: When I realized she could carry on a fun and interesting - long conversation.

    • Regina: When he said he loved to cook and made me a steak dinner!

  • Do you have an engagement story?

    • We went to a Cubs game in Chicago...a day game, but the game went into extra innings, therefore Chris had to sweat and think about the proposal even longer. Eventually we made it to Lake Michigan, got down on one knee, and the rest is history.

  • Why did you choose Milford Schools? Did you always foresee yourself working in a School District?

    • Basically, Chris made connections at Boyd E. Smith through his brother, who was living in Milford with his family. I had the opportunity to switch to Milford from Lockland a few years later. We did work together at Winton Woods Schools while we were dating and had a positive experience, so we knew it could work again if the opportunity presented itself.

  • What’s it like working in the same school district? Do you ever share ideas or collaborate with one another?

    • Working in the same school district has been completely positive. It's convenient to share the same academic calendar for vacations and holidays. We better understand each other's work environment, providing extra support and empathy for the challenges and successes. Serving the same community enhances a sense of shared purpose, commitment, and goals, which strengthens both our personal and professional bonds. We haven't had opportunities to collaborate with each other being in different schools and positions, but sharing ideas is part of our communication with one another as situations arise.

  • Have there been any funny or unexpected moments where your work and personal lives collided?

    • We do have many common students from when they move on from the elementary building to the Junior High, therefore we both have been asked, are you brother and sister? or is that your boyfriend or girlfriend?

    • It has been great working in the same district! We love having the same schedule and it is really special to be coaching in the same basketball gym where Dana cheered me on in her custom #45 Milford Eagles jersey.

  • Have there been any funny or unexpected moments where your work and personal lives collided?

    • It is always fun when Dana's freshmen students bring up embarrassing stories about me from their days in 7th grade ELA.
