Milford Schools is excited to expand our SRO (School Resource Officer) program with Miami Township Police Department and the City of Milford Police Department. Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, Milford Schools will have SROs in all Elementary and Secondary schools. These relationships are invaluable to ensure the safety of students and staff. Each day, SROs build strong and positive relationships with students, acting as mentors, mediators, and supporting classroom lessons and activities.
This March, we welcome Miami Township Police Officer Craig Heintzelman to Mulberry Elementary as a full time School Resource Officer (SRO), along with K9 Officers Gator, Seeker and Paisley. The K9s are people-friendly and scent and crowd trained.
Officer Craig brings 10 years of full time police experience and 24 years as a K9 handler to Milford Schools. He served as the Cincinnati Reds K9 Supervisor from 2017-2023. Officer Craig has spent the last several weeks getting to know Mulberry students and staff, including spending time in classrooms. He started by introducing students in younger grades and specialized classrooms to Siggy, a stuffed and life-like German Shepherd. More recently, Officer Craig introduced students to Paisley and Seeker.
For the remainder of the school year, Officer Sherri and Officer Jaimie will continue to rotate between Boyd, McCormick, Meadowview and Seipelt Elementaries. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, Seipelt Elementary will welcome Officer Geremy Grooms, who brings 21 years of experience, including serving as a detective for the past 4 years. Simultaneously, Officer Kyle Ball will join Boyd E. Smith. Officer Ball is a 2003 Milford graduate who has served as a police officer for 17 years.
In addition, our Milford Police Department school liaison, Officer Steve Bogan, will become the full-time SRO at Pattison Elementary beginning next school year.
We are grateful for the incredible partnerships we have with the Miami Township Police Department and the City of Milford Police Department. Please help us welcome these officers as they join our school communities and be on the lookout for more information about each of them for the ‘24-’25 school year!
