Milford High School senior Allison Rupert has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, a distinction earned by fewer than one percent of high school seniors across the nation. To qualify, students must achieve a high score on the PSAT, and Allison did just that. Now, she has submitted her application to be named a National Merit Finalist, joining approximately 15,000 students nationwide who may compete for nearly $26 million in scholarships awarded next spring.

"It does possibly entail a scholarship, and certain colleges can offer scholarships, not just through the National Merit program but directly as well,” she explained. In fact, Allison has already received a full tuition scholarship from the University of Louisville.

When asked about how she prepared for the PSAT, Allison emphasized the value of consistent learning over the years. “I feel like it’s kind of just everything you learn throughout your years. It’s the culmination of all the effort,” she said. “I really appreciate being recognized for that effort.”

Allison plans to study biology in college and hopes to stay local. She is applying to universities such as Miami University, University of Dayton, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame, and Case Western Reserve University.

Reflecting on her achievement, Allison expressed gratitude for her teachers and parents. “I feel pretty proud, and I really appreciate the recognition. I’m grateful for the support of my teachers and parents,” she said. As she awaits news on her finalist status, Allison’s advice to others is simple but powerful: “Keep working and put effort into everything you do. It opens up so many doors.”

The National Merit Finalists will be announced in February, and we wish Allison the best of luck in the next steps of this exciting journey.
