Flu Reminders from District Nurse

Dear Parents,
This letter is being sent to inform you that there is an increase in the number of cases of flu in the schools and community. We are asking for increased vigilance at this time.
Classroom absenteeism is being monitored. To alleviate the spread of the virus within the school, we request that no child returns to school until his/her temperature has returned to normal. A child should be fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
To combat the further spread of flu in the school, we are asking you to keep sick children at home. Any child that displays flu-like symptoms will be sent home.
Symptoms include:
- High Fever
- Runny or stuffy nose/cough
- Headache
- Extreme tiredness
- Body ache
- Sore throat
How is the flu spread?
The flu spreads from person to person in respiratory droplets from coughing and sneezing. It can also be spread from touching an infected surface, then touching your mouth or nose.
Look for Emergency Warning Signs
Emergency warning signs that require urgent medical attention:
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Not drinking enough fluids, not urinating enough.
- Not waking up or very lethargic
- Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
- Fever with a rash
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact your healthcare provider or speak to the nurse at your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Patty Price RN, BSN
