Nancy House to be Named Assistant Superintendent

Posted on: May 15, 2015

At the upcoming Board of Education meeting on May 21, Milford Superintendent Dr. Robert Farrell will be recommending Mrs. Nancy House as the new Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources, effective August 1, 2015. She is replacing Mr. Tim Ackermann, who is leaving the district to become Superintendent of Kings Local Schools.

“Mrs. House has done an outstanding job in her position as secondary curriculum director and I expect a seamless transition to this new position where she will continue to support teachers to help all of our students succeed,” Dr. Farrell said.

Mrs. House is completing her 32nd year in education and has spent the last five years as Director of Secondary Curriculum for Milford Schools. Prior to working in the central office, she was a high school teacher for 25 years with 15 of those years teaching Language Arts at Milford High School. She was also an assistant principal at Milford High School for one year and spent a second year as the high school principal after Dr. Bauer passed away at the beginning of the school year.

Mrs. House has her undergraduate degree from Miami University in English Literature and her graduate degree from Miami University in K-12 Reading Supervision. She has also completed her administrative license coursework through Xavier University. She is currently working on her doctorate in Leadership Studies at Xavier University.

Under her leadership as Director of Secondary Curriculum, she has worked collaboratively with teachers and administrators to achieve the following:

  • Revise all areas of 7-12 curriculum
  • Developed numerous new junior high and high school elective courses in order to increase opportunities for all students
  • Increased the number of AP courses
  • New courses and intervention programs for academically at-risk students
  • AP Honor Roll
  • Service Learning at the high school
  • Career education and internship program at the high school
  • All JH and HS teachers trained in content literacy

"I want to continue to help our students succeed in the classroom in every way that I possibly can. Recruiting and retaining exemplary educators and developing the leadership capacity of all staff members are some of the ways that human resources supports success for all students,” she said. "I believe that we serve students best when there is a collaborative and supportive relationship among the teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.”
