The next step is complete in the building of a new Milford middle school after a construction management firm was selected by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission and district officials.

Lebanon-based Conger Construction Group was selected to lead the project following interviews that occurred on Monday, April 18.

Conger was one of three firms who were interviewed in front of a panel of district and OFCC officials. The other two firms were Turner Construction and HGC.

On interview day, each firm presented information on their qualifications including pre-construction staffing, construction staffing, bonding costs for workers, plans on keeping the job site clean, and other factors. The scoring rubric required firms to not only be highly qualified to build the school, but also to provide detailed financial information on how they will manage construction funds.

Two OFCC officials and two Milford officials ranked their preferences based on the rubric and Conger came out on top.

“I am happy to announce that Conger Construction will be the construction manager for our new middle school,”  said Jeff Johnson, Milford’s director of business and operations. “While all three firms that were interviewed would have done a good job, Conger stood out as the best.”

The new middle school will be approximately 215,000 sq. ft. and have a capacity of approximately 1,600 students. Funding for the project is derived from a 2.47 mill bond issue approved by voters in November 2021, which will generate $55.9 million over 30 years. Milford will receive $11.5 million in co-funding from the OFCC to pay for a portion of the project.
