Posted on: February 19, 2021
Mrs Espy BES Principal

Mrs. Minna Espy has been named the next Principal of Boyd E. Smith Elementary School. Mrs. Espy currently serves in the role of Principal for our Eagle Online Elementary program. She will carry out that appointment for the remainder of this school year before transitioning to Boyd.

Previously, she served as Assistant Principal at Mulberry Elementary School and was the Preschool Director. Mrs. Espy earned a Master of Education Degree from Miami University; her undergraduate degree is from Marshall University. She began her career in education teaching elementary music and strings in the Springboro Community School District.

More than 40 educators applied for this Principal position. The pool was narrowed down to nine candidates who participated in a rigorous first round interview with the recommendation of three final candidates to the Boyd E. Smith Interview Committee - which was comprised of teachers, the school psychologist, the school nurse, parents, a Board member, and interim Principal Don Baker along with members of the district's leadership team. The final phase in the interview process was an hour-long interview with Superintendent John Spieser and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Jennie Berkley.

Mrs. Espy's mission is to provide all students with a variety of challenging learning experiences including innovation, soft skill development, and student voice and choice, to ensure that they are able to find success.

This new appointment was approved by the Milford Board of Education at their February 18 meeting.
