Milford Students to Perform Shakespeare Play at Memorial Hall
Posted on: April 6, 2017

This school year, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) has partnered with 38 different area schools, giving each school one of the 38 plays in Shakespeare's canon. Through this collaboration, Milford High School will perform "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on Friday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall on Elm Street.
During this school year, 18 actors from the CSC ensemble went into area highs schools as teaching artists. Each actor is paired with one or two schools and will work with teachers and students to develop and co-create interpretations of one play from Shakespeare's 38 plays.
Milford High School English teacher, Kirstie ( Rheinheimer ) Ford, and Drama teacher, Sherry McCamley, coordinate the program. Students in Acting III and Mrs. Ford's first semester Shakespeare class are participating. Two actors from the CSC, Billy Chace and Patrick Phillips, have also volunteered their time to work with the students.
Over the course of the year, Milford students have read the play together, identified key scenes, worked with the language to cut down the script, have auditioned for parts, and are rehearsing for their public performance.
"Billy and Patrick have graced us with their time and presence in working with our students and have provided incredible strategies for how to take on Shakespeare," said Mrs. Ford. "They have shared their enthusiasm and love for Shakespeare with our students and made this such a rewarding experience."
