UC Engineering Program Welcomes Milford Students
The University of Cincinnati welcomed students from Milford and Cincinnati Public Schools on Friday, May 11 to introduce them to careers in engineering.
Milford 4th and 5th graders in the gifted math program at Pattison, McCormick, Boyd E. Smith, and Meadowview Elementary Schools, as well as the Pattison STEAM Club, participated in the program.
Students spent the day at UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science learning more about jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Students worked in teams to solve engineering problems such as how to build the best bridge or construct a building to withstand an earthquake. UC also showed the IMAX movie “Dream Big,” a short film that shows how engineering saves lives and opens the world to possibilities.
“We want young students to know that engineers help people,” UC engineering professor and event organizer Steven Buchberger said. “It’s a fantastic way to have a very satisfying career. One person really can make a big difference."
